Yeppoon Fishing Charters

Posted on March 07 2012 by admin

Based at the southern end of Queensland's Great Barrier Reef, Yeppoon is the access point to some of Australia's finest fishing. Yeppoon is around 30 minutes drive from Rockhampton's airport. Direct flights to Rockhampton are available from Brisbane, Townsville, Mackay, Gladstone and Sydney.

Fishing charters in the Yeppoon area depart Rosslyn Bay Marina, which is around 9 kilometres south of Yeppoon central. This is the departure point for day trips and overnight live-aboard fishing charters up to 10 days in duration.

Day trip fishing charters involve anything from one to two and a half hours steaming to reach the numerous reefs and wrecks in the area. Target species include Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Grassy Sweetlip, Nannigai, Hussar, Snapper, Giant Trevally and Queen Fish. Spanish Mackeral, Cobia, Wahoo, Dog Tooth Tuna and other pelagic species are also targeted while on the move. These fishing charters are up to 11 hours duration and can depart as early as 4:30am - ensuring the best fishing experience possible.

For fishing charter trips up to four days, target locations include the numerous wrecks and reefs around Yeppoon, Capricorn Bunker Group and Bloomfield Reef. All these locations offer exciting fishing opportunities.

The longer overnight live-aboard fishing charters are aimed at the more serious angler. Target locations include the numerous wrecks and reefs around Yeppoon, Capricorn Bunker Group, Bloomfield Reef, Bugatti Reef and the famous Swains Reef. Fishing charters to Bugatti and Swains reefs cover much further distances, and would normally be 7 or 10 day trips. Target species in these more distant locations include Red Jew, Red Emperor, Coral Trout, Grassy Sweetlip, Nannigai, Hussar, Snapper, Giant Trevally and Queen Fish. Spanish Mackeral, Cobia, Wahoo, Dog Tooth Tuna and other pelagic species are also targeted, along with Sailfish and Black Marlin.

There is a broad range of fishing styles available on these fishing charters. The types of fishing available include reef fishing, game fishing, popper-lure fishing, sport fishing, fly fishing and deep water jigging. But of course many anglers spend the majority of their time fishing the magnificent reefs and bombies.

All anglers on fishing charters are also subject to Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries bag and size limits. All fishing charter skippers and operators are familiar with all rules and regulations and will ensure you keep on the right side of the law.
